2017 LINE-UP

The Main Squeeze

Seamlessly blending funk, soul and rock and roll, the Main Squeeze promises to keep your body moving with their infectious, feel good musical gumbo.  It’s a high energy Stevie Wonder meets Red Hot Chili Peppers thing, delivered with virtuosic skill by every band member. Regardless of where you are coming from musically, AWESTRUCK is where you will be after witnessing the SQUEEZE live.

See-I

You might know brothers Arthur “Rootz” Steele and Archie “Zeebo” Steele as frontmen for the Thievery Corporation, who they’ve been touring and recording with for over 15 years.  As See-I, they meld funk, house, dancehall, hip-hop, rock & reggae-soul to deliver a potent high energy dance party.  From humble beginnings in North Carolina, the Steele Brothers got their start singing in the church choir and were soon transfixed by the funk, soul and rock sounds they heard on the radio in the 1970s. Decades of musical depth and experience are the secret weapons they bring to the table, both live and in the studio.  Band mates Rob Myers on guitar, Ashish Vyas on bass (both of Thievery Corp), Jeff Franca on drums, Frank Mitchell on sax and Salem Steele on keys comprise the most prodigious live band out of Washington, DC. Live, their energy is unparalleled, infectious and inspiring !

Greener Grounds

This super fresh psychedelic funk-tronica band fuses jam-rock, funk, break beats and trance fusion atop an irresistible four-on-the-floor dance beat with sweaty, smiling results. They travel through the aural grounds inhabited by Lotus, STS9 and the Disco Biscuits, then they turn it up some more.  Their 2015  EP and tour was supported by the UNTZ magazine, and their music has been called ‘Jamtronica Gold’. With their positive message of a greener world, they don't just talk the talk, they rock the rock !

Katdelic

Raw funk, rough and ready for a new world order.  Ronkat performed for 10 years with George Clinton’s P-Funk All Stars. His rocket ship tight band features two bass players, multiple vocalists, a freight train of a drummer and a deep knowledge of all things funky. Ronkat is a phenomenal entertainer, skilled multi-instrumentalist, singer, Grammy nominated songwriter, and BMI songwriter of the year.  We are thrilled to know Ronkat and the Katdelics will be funk’n things up once again at Guitarfish in July.

House of Hamsa

Members of Hamsa Lila, Liberation Movement, Heavyweight Dub Champion, Dirtwire, & Dogon Lights – experimental musical mad scientists all – meld ancient instruments, samples, live mixing, loops and electronics to create a one of a kind improvisational aural feast for the intergalactic soul.  Their performances at the past two JTMFs were no less than transcendent. Vir McCoy (Hamsa Lila, Dogon Lights), Inks Herman (Hamsa Lila, Hugh Masakela), Evan Fraser (Dirtwire, Hamsa Lila) and Grant Chambers (Liberation Movement, Heavyweight Dub Champion), along with guest vocalists, comprise the House of Hamsa.

Gene Evaro Jr.

Home grown. Self made. The real deal personified. Gene and his band (Piper Robison, Ben Kennedy, Mitchell Arganda, Clint Stoker & Scott Kissinger) are a musical force. The pacing of their show, and each song, is varied.  They deliver delicious soulful grooves, raucous guitar fueled funk, and poetic folk with equal aplomb. Not only do they have that elusive “It”, they work hard at honing their skills, making each show better than the previous.  Music made from the HEART.

Liberation Movement

A multi-dminesional portal to transmutation, summoning the dawn of a musical revolution. Primal, tribal hip hop and funktastic otherworldly grooves….sonic shamanistic alchemy of the highest level.  Grant Chambers (aka Resurrector of Heavyweight Dub Champion), Sasha Rose & Noah King lead a cast of musical mad scientists, creating music for the mind, body & soul.  Powerful  and poignant.  Behold and witness a family of artists who truly GO DEEP to deliver heartfelt messages to inspire positive change and evolution.

Steve Poltz

Steve Poltz is obsessed with the challenge of knowing and understanding the thoughts of each and every person in his audience. He is a lover of life; fascinated by all things large and small. As a road-tested troubadour armed with whimsy, curiosity and a healthy respect for the absurdities of existence, he is unafraid of saying yes, unafraid of letting his relentless, giddy energy fill a room and he is unafraid of letting his streams-of-consciousness take him where he needs to go.  His songs are guileless snapshots filtered through the windshield of his brain. He opens his mouth and lets it fall out – a SONG – and it’s as shameless and intriguing and profound and wondrous as he is. A mix of high octane performance, singular wit and endlessly entertaining storytelling, Steve is legendary for his improvisational songwriting and timeless, original classics.

Smoked Out Soul

Live-tronic retro electro grooves. “An immersive experience with live horn players, drummers and guitarists collaborating with sound sculpting producers on a Void surround-sound system.  If you’re into highly skilled musicians, danceable grooves, a bit of the unexpected…all coming through on an amazing sound system, then a Smoked Out Soul show is the place to be” says Donavon ‘Gordo Cabeza’ of Motown on Mondays.  Their bi-monthly residency in San Fran is quickly becoming an institution for being a Future Funk & Soul Remix party extraordinaire.

Trevor Green

Spirited, deep, soul-stirring and thought provoking.  Trevor Green is a one man force of nature. Fusing world, funk, folk and jam rock into a high energy performance, Trevor’s music has a strong universal appeal. The versatile (understatement) multi-instrumentalist who makes use of vocals, guitars (6 and 12 string, lap, slide, banjo, mandolin and ukulele), didgeridoo, stomp box, and harmonica is truly a breath of fresh air.  The skill set of this finger style guitartists free form artistic ability, combined with enthusiasm and love of cultured music is showcased in raw, live, unedited fashion. His most recent album was recorded in Joshua Tree with Robbi Robb (3rd Ear Experience) and Chris Unck (Lucky Bones, High Lonesome Studios).

Down North

Down North masterfully mixes underground rock and hard driving soul; equal parts Prince, Hendrix & Sly.  Raised on Michael Jackson and Sam Cooke, vocalist Anthony “Renagade” Briscoe is a captivating presence. Beyond charismatic.  The band is uber tight.  Brandon Storms (bass), the award winning & crowd amping Conrad Real (drums) and Nick Quiller (guitar) are super-competent players and singers that have mastered the taut, coiled, groove science that marks the best of funk rock.

All Good Funk Alliance

Big bouncy bass lines. The All Good Funk Alliance have opened for James Brown, DJ’d around the globe, written songs for commercials, TV and movies, and have consistently appeared on the BreaksPoll Top 50 list. In other words, AGFA is no stranger to the Funk.  AGFA worked for years with Fort Knox Five recording studios; home to the Thievery Corp, Fort Knox Five, Thunderball and more. Incorporating musical tastes that range the gamut, the end result is always the same; they deliver a sound that is funky, fun and fresh.

Desert Rhythm Project

Born in the Magical Mojave, where talent, hard work and positive intentions collide, the Desert Rhythm Project is a dynamic Neo-Roots, Reggae, Funk & Soul band. Fronted by desert natives Michael Reyes and Bryanna Evaro, DRP deliver soulful harmonies, effortless melodic guitar techniques, and smooth bass rhythms. Michael Reyes' presence (lead vocals, guitar) is part James Brown, part Bob Marley; he delivers with conviction.  Bryanna Evaro's (bass, vocals) velvety folk-roots vibe complements Michael perfectly. Tyler Saraca (drums) and David Macias (Machin’) round out the line up, proving adept in a wide range of musical stylings.  Home grown !

Mixmaster General extraordinaire, Ian has is responsible for some legendary dance parties at the Joshua Tree Music Festivals.  Breaks and Beats, tastefully paced, diverse and funktastic.  His mixes consistently rank high up on the MIXCLOUD charts for Breakbeat, Electro, Funk, TechHouse & Breaks.
